E3: Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic Online in the making

The CEO of EA, John Riccitiello, had something that can only be described as a slip of the tongue. In a very recent interview at the E3, he first said:

We've got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development, (Warhammer being the first) And the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about -- in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game for the industry at the point when we get closer to telling you about it.

Being pressed if he could possibly mean the long anticipated and often rumored about Knights of the Old Republic Online, he simple said: "Yes!"

So there you have it, the next Star Wars MMO is in the making, but at this point nothing else is known about the title.

So, Bioware is working on 2 MMOs: SW KotoR and the untiteld MMO? I see i will never ever have Real Life...

Sometimes I really don't understand the world of Public Relations. Only one day ago I read this news: http://www.massively.com/2008/07/16/e308-bioware-says-there-is-no-kotor-... well, if there is a KotOR MMO: why didn't they announce it back then? If they wanted to wait for a press conference, okay: then I would have understood it. But now they gave it away in a simple interview, only one day later. Help me understand.

Understatement is the fashion of the new E3: Miyamoto with Pikmin and now Riccitiello with KotOR Online. I think we can announce this THE day of MMO's in 2008 with now knowing that the WoW beta is also about to start. But KotOR Online is of way more interest to me.

And now excuse me: I have to earn enough money to survive with it for the rest of my life before KotOR Online launches.

It doesn't make sense, so there is nothing to understand. That's why I suspected in the first line that it must have been a slip of the tongue.
He's probably being whipped in a dungeon somewhere right now.

Boo! They should focus on making the type of games that they can make properly. Kotor was good, Star Wars Galaxies, from all I've read, wasn't. Mixing the two doesn't sound like a very good idea. And Kotor 2 left so many questions unanswered, it just needs a good SP sequel. If they want multiplayer, they should just add a coop mode and be done with it.
I hope this bleeding MMO-craze that seems to be sweeping over the gaming industry will soon be over.

From what I've heard, Galaxies got better and better with time and is now a pretty decent MMO worth playing. But because it did so many things wrong in the beginning and then got the harshest restructuring after about one year that any MMO up to date ever got (making very many core gamers angry with that), the customers have by now lost faith in it.

You remind me that I should finally play KotOR 2. Never did. The first two hours were so ... boring.

Be sure to get all the inofficial patches for the game, there are quite a few story bugs after ~20 hours

Be sure to wait another month or two, the restoration mod (restoring content that was cut shortly before release) seems to be rapidly nearing its release.

Anyway, I don't like MMOs very much. I just don't see the point why I should be the millionth player to fetch a woman's necklace that has been stolen by a band of goblins, or why I should kill said band of goblins only to have them all respawn half an hour later.
And I see even less sense in the fact that I should pay a monthly fee for a nonsensical game that's graphically inferior to similar offline games, when I could buy a proper RPG for the same price and without additional cost. If I wanted to stupidly grind may way through hundreds of enemies, there's always Dungeon Siege to play... and that has a donkey. MMOs don't have donkeys. QED

;)

I just had one of this "MMOs Suck" thoughts as I was asked to steal a book in "Age of Conan"
There were 15 Guards in the house, but because of the "Aggro"system you have in these games, 14 guards would be standing around, even if they could see me, while I was fighting the other one quite noisily, because I was 5 meters away from them.

Most times the quests are just crap.

But on the other hand, playing it in groups is indeed fun. Just for killing monsters that respawn again. Like Diablo 2 :)
