E3: Nintendo announces Wii MotionPlusE3: Nintendo announces Wii MotionPlus

Just in case the headline made you wonder: No, you didn't miss the Nintendo press conference at the E3 Media and Business Summit in Los Angeles. This is scheduled for Tuesday morning (e.g. evening in european countries). But still, Nintendo already revealed a new accesory for the Wiimote today which we will most definitely hear many more things about tommorow. The new gadget is running under the name WiiMotion Plus and if we can believe the Nintendo website, it can do incredible things. The big success of Nintendo's Wii is definitely based on its innovative control scheme and Nintendo obviously aim to further enhance this. The Wii MotionPlus is plugged into the end of the Wiimote, which means that there doesn't seem to be a possibility to attach the Nunchuk anymore, and it allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. If those promising lines really turn out to be true, this could very well be a massive enhancement of the Wii controls that still seem a bit unprecise sometimes, especially in half-hearted third-party games. Right now, we are still wondering about how games are supposed to work with the nunchuk missing, but Nintendo will probably have thought about this carefully. So it is highly likely that new games for the device will be announced tomorrow and that we will also see it in action in tomorrow's press conference.

Is that something like the Sidewinder Freestyle game pad MS had 10 years ago?
Ah, the good old SideWinder Series. I still use my "SideWinder strategic Commander"

I'd say the Wii MotionPlus in the picture looks like it has the same connector at the end as the Wii Remote - so you'd just plug the Nunchuck into the Wii MotionPlus.
