UPDATE: Weekly Shōnen Jump, a Japanese magazine, has now confirmed that Square Enix are working on Chrono Trigger DS. The first info bits available seem to indicate that it is not going to be new, but rather a port of the SNES game. Probably we can even hope for additional content (similar to the Final Fantasy ports for the GBA).

Square Enix, known for their console role-playing franchises (Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest) have launched a countdown site very recently. All you can see on there is the Nintendo DS logo and a big clock that's ticking. The URL of this site runs under the name http://www.square-enix.co.jp/ctds/, and the easiest explanation for this would be that ctds stands for Chrono Trigger DS, also considering that the series has got to do with time travel. That would explain the clock. Definitely easier than Blizzard's riddles, that is.

Chrono Trigger was originally released on the SNES, then later ported to the PlayStation and it is still considered to be one of the most excellent RPG's that the SNES ever brought to life (and there were many games of that genre on the Super Nintendo). Unfortunately the game has never seen a release in Europe and it is not clear yet if it will ever be made available on the Virtual Console for the Nintendo Wii because of copyright details.

So we urge you, Square Enix: Let it be Chrono Trigger DS. And release it in Europe. Please!

Chrono Trigger was a really awesome game, I still hold fond memories of it. I don't own a DS and never will be, but the game deserves a sequel, even if it's only on a handheld.

Well, that get's me out of the frying pan into the fire, I don't own a PSone either...

But there is a saying: "everything in it's time and everything in it's place", maybe I should just remember it as a great RPG and leave it at that.
