Hellgate: London Reaches 1.000.000 Players

Hellgate London, the game that was created by some designers that also worked on diablo, wasn't as successful as everybody had hoped (hyped?).

Although it has a cool setting in London, many people criticized it for a lot of things, as you can see on the bad reviews amazon.com.

Now, the game has finally reached a million active subscribers, as Microsofts open letter to PC gamers by John Schappert says. That of course, has to do with the Asian gamers who seem to like the game. Maybe Hellgate London will finally get some fans after all?

I also gave it a bad review at the time, the expectations were just to high, and the game never felt right to me. I'm sure it was very good in using the same mechanics as Diablo did, but Diablo is over 10 years old and it wouldn't work anymore nowadays.

i think that diablo would still work and get a better review than hellgate got today. diablo does not have as many glitches and it´s quicker and it´s most importantly more addictive. i think that you need almost no tactics in hellgate (played it) and that the many fights against special enemies in diablo add a lot of depth. Just in the same breath, i want to say how stupid hellgate can be sometimes. just think of the mission where you´ve to shoot that big ship in the air. it takes like 20 min, and all you do is shooooooot and never stop. ANNOYING!
i´m playing diablo 2 at the moment, and i´m having way more fun with it than i´d ever had with hellgate
