Germany —

Indie publisher Gamecock has announced that their stealth shooter Velvet Assassin is scheduled for an end-of-2008 release on PC and Xbox 360. In the game, British agent Violette Summer is sent behind German lines to succeed in 12 assassination, infiltration and ... nightmare missions (the latter hinting at some sort of Max Payne reminiscence). Apart from 1940ies weaponry, Violette can kill enemies by unconventional means, e.g. lighting a pool of gasoline when a German guard steps into it. The German developer behind the game is Replay Studios, you can find additional information and screenshots on their (English) website or on velvetassassin.com.

I've heard about this title before, which BTW got a lovely name. The team of Replay Studios does still hire level designers, artists, etc. It also seems that the game will be based on the UT3 engine from what I can make out of the job application sheets on their site.

I'm looking forward to the game since the time where it was still running under the name "Sabotage"; I think they've been working on the game for quite some time now already. I try to remember when I first read about it, and I imagine it to be at least two years ago. But probably I'm wrong.

Well, apart from that: I liked the visual style of the game from the beginning on and I'm glad that it's still in there.
And Gamecock (although the name would suggest differently) are worth keeping an eye on, their project Dungeon Hero also looks pretty promising.

Gamecock is merely the publisher, the creative Team behind the game is Replay Studios. (Dungeon Hero is being developed by Firefly Studios).

Maybe it's just me, but in my eyes the developer should be more important than the publisher.

It's not just you, the developer is definitely more important than the publisher. But the publisher also has a say and can be very important for the development of a game. What I just wanted to say is that the portfolio of Gamecock looks pretty good and that I hope (and think) that they can do a good job in working together with the development teams to give us some good games in the future.

When I first read the title I thought this would be a fancy mix between Violet (Milla Jovovich) and Buffy Summers, but Wikipedia taught me that Violette Szabo was a real-life character.
