Germany —

The independent development team High Voltage is currently working on a first-person shooter for the Wii, called The Conduit. It is running with the in-house Quantum 3 engine and a tech demo shows that this is actually able to do some surprisingly good work on the Nintendo Wii; we especially like the look of the water.

By now a gameplay trailer has also emerged, focussing on the combat as well as giving some mysterious hints concerning the storyline (which is about an extraterrestrial attack in the middle of Washington D.C. that you have to fight, unveiling government conspiracies on the way): read this preview to find out more. Some of the weapons and gadgets shown in the trailer look really imaginative, so the armory will most probably not only consist of the generic arsenal you get in nearly every shooter. But The Conduit is not only promising very good visuals. It will include single and competitive online multiplayer gameplay as well.

The game also feels like one studio's attempt to prove a point, namely that the Wii is more than just a platform for casual games and shovelware. Says High Voltage chief creative officer Eric Nofsinger, The Conduit aims to provide players with "the kind of title they imagined back when the platform was first announced."

The website www.nintendowiifanboy.com was now able to grab hold of 18 new screens from this shooter, which is planned to be released in the first quarter of 2009. And they still look pretty good, we must say. You can see one of them on top of this article, the rest is here.

There is only one problem: The game doesn't have a publisher yet. So: Why? I mean: It's not like we would have all been oh so keen on My Horse And Me, Chegger's Party Quiz, Kawaski Jet Ski or so many other titles that just don't deserve to be inserted into any Wii disc slot on this planet, but they found a publisher nonetheless.

The Conduit seems to have everything that those titles lack. Please publish it. Anybody?
