Hellgate Devs Are Going Through HellHellgate Devs Are Going Through Hell
Last updated on June 12, 2008 - 16:50.
Through the net it spread like a wildfire of excitement; through Flagship Studios it must have swept more like an outcry from its developers. No wonder then that Guy Somberg's weblog article Work Is Depressing has been deleted ever since despite its recently striking popularity. It seems that working for Flagship Studios was Hellgate on Earth for most employees of this multiplayer action RPG. Read on why after the break. Guy Somberg, gameplay programmer at Flagship Studios, wrote:
The reason is that people are leaving. In droves, they're leaving. We've had programmers, accountants, HR people, and artists leave. The founders are all still around, but they've been floating away from Hellgate to work on various other projects. [...] Thing is, the way things are going I'm likely to be the only programmer still working on Hellgate left from the original crew. I've heard rumours that other programmers and artists are thinking of leaving. Somberg doesn't want to leave, but instead stands by and believes in his company. "I don't want to leave Flagship. I'm happy here. I like the people, I like the environment, I like the pay, I like the location." There is still hope, it seems: China and Korea could very well become the new Asian anchor for Hellgate. This goes especially for Korea where more than one million accounts were registered within two weeks since the Korean launch of Hellgate. Also, read Flagship's official reaction by co-founder David Brevik to Guy Somberg's blog entry. (Thanks to Knurrunkulus) If you're interested in the term "flagshipped," read the (rather unfair) entries in the Urban Directory. (Thanks to Starkiller)

FIRST! ;) I just wrote and published an article about the same topic half an hour ago. What do we do?
And where did the top news about the "Ring of Death" go? It's nowhere to be found anymore, not in top news, not in the "New"-section as well. Did it disappear through (sorry, I just can't resist, I just have to make this pun) a hellgate as well?
Editing took so long that I didn't see your news. Someone should merge them. Jörg?
The 360 news vanished because Jörg set them on top of the list; the same I have done to my Hellgate now, most selfishly ... *blush*. I "restored" the Xbox news though (demoted to normal news on front page). Everything else is up to Jörg now.
I think a "first news" should stay at least 24 hours.
I totally agree. But I wasn't aware that the Xbox news got promoted to top when writing this news bit.
Please don't promote news to First News until further notice. Apart from that (I've reinstated the Xbox news as First News): Very good news!
Here the Official FFS Statement:

Thanks, I've included it in the news, now.
I didn't look into the comments first thing this morning, which is why I just wrote a new article about Flagship's offical reaction to Guy Somberg's statement. It's only now that I see you have already linked to it yesterday. Could have saved me some work there. ;)
