Crayon Physics (PC)Crayon Physics (PC)

You may have heard about Crayon Physics, which was released twelve months ago. Well, I had not, so I decided to write a small review about it. Crayon Physics is a freeware puzzle-game in which you have to get a ball to a star. Sounds easy? Well, maybe, but all you have at hand is a crayon. And it works like this: You can draw things, similar to paint, the program in windows. But then, on digital paper in this game, these things behave physically correct: they can fall down and hit other things, which with the impulse of the impact move as well, if you hit them at a physically instable spot. For example: in the first level the ball is on the left side, the star on the right. You draw something above the ball, a little bit to the left of the ball, so it hits the ball, and the ball moves towards the star. The game itself can be downloaded here. The design of the game reminds me of the SNES game Yoshi's Island from 1995, but the reason for this is that they are the only two games that have that "crayon look" I know. The music is rather simple, quite relaxing. I imagine that it would really get on my nerves after a while, but, as it is a mini-game, you would not spend more than half an hour playing it. A few months ago, the designer stated that there will be a successor called Crayon Physics Deluxe, and created a preview page including a video clip. The deluxe version features:
Playing the game is definitely much easier with a drawing tablet. With the mouse, you often need several tries to get to the thing you want. Or maybe, I just have to improve my mouse abilities. Well, if you are interested, visit the blog of the creators and have a look!

I don't have gimp at the moment, could someone please cut the lower half of this picture and add it? Thanks!
Done so. Nice game. Makes me wish I hadn't sold my graphic tablet
Thanks again!
Thanks for this User-Review, you've been awarded 50 Extra EXP!
Thank you very much!
At first I wanted to write a News article about the new one, then I realized that it would be a nice mini review.
I tried it, it's fun and the music is somniferous ^^
It's really fun.
??? Where did the little teaser news that was linking here go? Did someone erase it?
Obviously someone did. I assume they are working on the problem that user reviews don't automatically show up on the front page.
I did unpublish the teaser because for seconds the mini-review and the teaser were showing on the front page. I don't know why that has changed but I have restored the teaser article to your mini-review.
I have to make this clear: I really don't like the game. At first I thought: "Ah, interesting and innovative". Then I thought "Ah, difficult". And finally I thought: "What the ?%&$%&% am I doing wrong?" So probably I am just not skilled enough.
But everyone apart from me seems to like it. That reminds me of the fact that I dislike the movie "Juno" very much, but everyone else around me goes completely ballistic saying "Best movie of the year".
Is there something wrong with me? ;)
I know this game and played it (and liked it very much), but I don't know the level you depict in the picture. I think that it is from the successor, so could you lease change it? Not only is there no level with a drawn castle in Crayon Physics, but it is not possible to have objects other than rectangles, crude circles (a full, closed circle is not possible, it would convert into a rectangle), lines or dots (very short lines). So no triangular structures as can be seen in the picture.
Since bolle doesn't have a graphics program yet, I took the liberty to replace it with a part of a screenshot from the official homepage of the game.
Thank you, this shot seems to be authentic. Note: The "Deluxe" version will be a much enhanced, more complete game where the game reviewed is "only" a meditation-like physics- and style-example in my humble opinion. But one that you should definitely download and play for yourselves...
A really interesting game, at the start of most levels I just scratched my head and though "what the heck? No way", but then you look at it, after about 30 seconds you form an idea and within 1 or 2 minutes you solve it, I found that to be very rewarding. Nothing I would like to play for hours on end, but the game was a bit on the short side nonetheless, with about 10 minutes its more like a teaser, but hey it's free it was great fun and the guy is already working on a full version, so what more is there to want?
