Haze: Prize cut after only three weeks

Germany —

The exclusive Playstation 3 title Haze dropped from $59.99 to $39.99 this week at the American retail chain Gamestop. No exact numbers are known at this point, but Haze sold only a little more then 100.000 units in its first week. It can be expected that Ubisoft was hoping for much more than this.

But with a metacritic score of only 56(based on 38 individual reviews), it would be a surprise if sales would go up significantly. So it seems that only after three weeks, Ubisoft is trying to clear out storage with this drastic price cut.

Here are some of the review summaries:

On the whole, Haze isn't outright terrible or broken - it's just unsatisfying and misguided and would have been merely average on the Xbox and PS2.
(1UP Score 33)
The combat's weak, the storyline's excruciating, it's technically deficient - Haze really is this year's most significant gaming disappointment.
(EuroGamer Score 40)
On paper, Haze had all the makings of a PS3-exclusive classic but, thanks to poor execution, it just doesn't have what it takes to be a fun first-person shooter or a good game in general.
(GameZone Score 55)

When I first heard and read about "Haze" after the Ubidays last year this grew to be one of my big hopes for the gaming year 2008. I really liked the catch with the "Nectar"-drug, offering a very interesting way to deal with violence in video games and at the same time being quite a sarcastic remark about warfare and brainwash.

All the time I thought that this could well turn into the title I would finally buy myself a PS3 for. It didn't.

Then just wait for 3 more days until Metal Gear Solid 4 is in stores. From what I heard and read about it the game seems to be worth the money.

It's PS3 exclusive? Thank God. I wouldn't wanna see this title on my Xbox. I agree with what Jeff said about Haze:

Jeff Gerstmann wrote:
Playing Haze left me disappointed, for sure, but it also left me extremely curious about its development. Free Radical, the developers of Haze, have done better in the past in almost every single way possible, from weapons, to levels, to bot intelligence. Though it was announced just over two years ago, the end result plays like something that was slapped together and shipped after a year or so, rather than something that was painstakingly developed and refined. While there’s nothing about Haze that’s out-and-out broken or completely terrible, it doesn’t come close to meeting the expectations that today’s first-person shooter market creates.
