Crysis Warhead: Fight as (a) Psycho -- on PC onlyCrysis Warhead: Fight as (a) Psycho -- on PC only

Crysis was one of (and maybe the) technically most advanced games in 2007, on any platform. But it was also harmed by piracy and its PC exclusivity, according to EA's European Publishing boss Dr. Jens-Uwe Intat, whom we've talked to recently. Now, in order to finally make some money (our interpretation!) with the franchise, Crysis gets an... add-on? successor? No, a "parallel story". Shipping exclusively for the PC this autumn, Crysis Warhead is not developed by Crytek's core studio, but by the fairly new Budapest studio. It will basically use the CryEngine 2, but will "enhance and optimize" it. Also, the developers plan to "refine their story-telling". In Crysis Warhead, players will play the part of Psycho, who was a sidekick to the player character Nomad in the game. He is described as "more brash and aggressive", and that is what we can expect from the missions that form his parallel story-line. Psycho will be "equipped with an even bigger arsenal of fully customizable weapons and new vehicles, giving players access to the tools they need to dominate any situation.". And if you can't understand the fuss about Crysis in the first place, why don't check our extra-large, video- and screenshot-heavy Review from late 2007? Tell us: Have you played Crysis, what did you think about it? Or would you only play it on console?

I played through Crysis and I think it was overrated (like most hyped games) by the public.
The first part of the game, which involved sneaking and tactics was fun. I didn't enjoy the rest that much.
It's true what Jörg's review says about the alien part being boring and too long and that the story just completley drops the koreans etc.
The stealth power was too mighty and I didn't find the others very natural to use, so I used them only where it was really obvious (except for strength, which makes your aim more precise, so I aim in stealth, switch to strength, fire a shot and switch back to stealth).
I didn't like the little flying alien thingies very much (looked like the sentinels in matrix). They didn't feel like good enemies.
The flying part felt like a totally different game and it's atmosphere wasn't as good as the rest of the game.
My opinion is, that Crytek should have invested less time on technology and more time on the game itself.
But I'm going to try Crysis Warhead =)
I played it for 15 Minutes, It looked like the usual shooter stuff, sneak, shoot, run around, bammbamm, didn't really like it...
That was my impression as well, I played the demo for 30 minutes and didn't enjoy it very much, but I really don't like shooters anymore, I stopped playing them nearly 10 years ago. Give me an addon to distribute points into strength or sneaking and I might be tempted.
I didn't even play the demo.^^
I can't exactly say why, but from the first few previews on, I had the impression that Crysis just looked fancy, but wouldn't deliver gameplay-wise, so I never even tried it. I'll play an exceptionally good shooter now and then (CoD 4 or Republic Commando spring to mind), but apart from that, I've also come to prefer games with character sheets. And skill trees, mana bars and a party, preferably.
I can't quite remember what Psycho was supposed to do between the taking of the harbour and the scenes on the carrier. Any idea, anybody?
I played Crysis on my PC back then. Off course, like almost every Machine it was technical inferior to bring Crysisi in all it's graphical beauty and even on low detail level i had not the fluid gameplay, especeally in the later alien helter skelter levels.
That pissed me off big time and i decided to get a x box.
The story on the game and manny things weren't too impressive to me either. I didn't like the alien because i didn't really get any feedback when i shot them, it just felt not good to shot them. I liked the levels with the humans better.
All in all Far Cry was more of a gamepaly breakthrough and i liked it better.
Maybe i still would buy "Warhead" for my X Box if there is an leveleditor like in far cry instincts for the old x box, but not for PC, that would be wasted money cause i wouldn't get the game how it was ment to be ...
I am afraid that EA doesn't plan to release Warhead for the 360, they rather seem to try to optimize the existing engine, add better copy protection and sell enough copies on the PC in the second try...
Maybe they should try the trick we all know from the old "Mission Impossible" series...
This disk will destroy itself in 5 seconds...
Well it won't be a big deal to me. I think they would make much more money if they tried to release it for x Box but maybe its too diffucult or the box is technical not good enough for the cry engine 2.
of course they would release it for X-Box or PlayStation if they could make money with it, but apart from being difficult to port, the title is simple to demanding for the current consoles. Crysis is all about stunning graphics, it doesn't have a groundbreaking story or incredible new gameplay-features, on the console the graphics would only look mediocre, making the title mediocre as well.
It would harm the franchise, that's my opinion on their reasons.
