Age of Conan: Still Chances For War Mammoths
You are probably already ferouciously battling in Hyboria by now, and you might even have been lucky to order a Pre-Order or Collector's Edition for "Age of Conan" early enough before they were all sold out. Which would mean that you might think that you will forever be the only ones riding on a War Mammoth. But you might have to re-think that thought because of over what I stumbled today.
In my search for the cheapest Standard Edition of the game I could get I was walking around some computer stores here in Nottingham, UK, and everywhere the normal Standard Edition was on sale, with the cover looking like this.
But then I went into the local store of the branch GAME and saw something which I wouldn't have expected at all. It was the Standard Edition, but next to the sword on the left there is a blue circle in which it said: "GAME Exclusive. Exclusive Edition includes War Mammoth." On the right of the sword there is another circle with a War Mammoth looking out of it. Those are not just some cheap stickers that someone put onto the cover. It's printed on the cover, and because I have by now opened the box I can say: There is indeed an extra code for an in-game-item on the back of the Beginner's Handbook included. So: GAME and Funcom seem to have an exclusive deal and, judging by the box that is right now lying next to me, it involves giving some more people a chance to call a Mammoth their own.
I am not only dreaming this, and this picture I took shall be proof for that.
However, I found not a single word about this exclusive edition on the internet, not even on the website of the specific store I mentioned above. So it seems to be a version only meant for retail sales. That means: If you haven't ordered "Age of Conan" yet, if you fancy a War Mammoth and if you know someone that lives in the UK, it might be worth a try to let them seek out the stores in town to find out if the special edition is also available there.
What it also means: Funcom's policy seems to be a bit unpredictable. There was already some uproar when they announced that not every purchaser of a Pre-Order-Version could be granted an early access, and Funcom always telling its customers that there will only be a War Mammoth in the special or pre-order editions and now suddenly offering yet another way to get it might now upset some more people. We will see.

This War Mammoth is a mount I presume, or a pet?
It is a special and exclusive mount. While you sit on it you can fight (well, it's more like the mammoth will do the fighting for you with all its might) and it can also be used (unlike the horse, which is the standard mount) to destroy buildings later on in the game, especially in PvP mode.
Hhm I think I will get one today in the GAME in Canterbury. I can decide if I want to play it later anyway...
Is it possible to play the British Version on a german server?
Yes, it is. With any european version of the game you can also play on any european server. But with the british version you will have the full content of the game, while in the german version five fatality moves had to be thrown out. Good luck with your shopping. ;)
It's lying on the desk now, and I still don't have a computer to play it. next week...
I can also not play it yet, I have to order my new pc first. Presumably two weeks still to go.

I would have thought that word about this exlusive edition should have spread by now. I mean: I was surely not the only one who went into a GAME store in order to buy "Age of Conan" yesterday. Or was I? ;)

Yes, perhaps. Although I would have thought that someone else simply must have had the urge to write about it at least in one of the various "Age of Conan"-forums available on the internet. GamersGlobal seems to have done some pioneer work. :)
Or Mammoths are free for everybody and we just don't know that :)
Nope. I was searching around on the internet for a very long time to make sure I wouldn't write something completely wrong in my news. And the Mammoth was, according to the information I found, definitely said to be exclusive for pre-order or CE. :)
